Gaza : Two Hamas leaders, Dr Mohamed Al-Zahhar and Saeed Seyam, have headed for Egypt to meet former American president Jimmy Carter who has invited them for a meeting.
Local radio stations said the meeting will be held Wednesday evening in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The officials are to discuss the Israeli closure over the Gaza Strip.
Sources said that the two leaders will review aspects of the suffering of the people of Gaza under the Israeli blockade, besides discussing the means of calming the security situation in the Strip.
The two Hamas leaders are also expected to meet Egyptian Intelligence Chief General Omar Suliman and a number of Egyptian officials, before the delegation heads back to Gaza.
Carter is meeting the two leaders after concluding his visit Wednesday to Ramallah where he met Palestinian officials and where the former American president criticised the Israeli settlement policies in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
