United Nations : UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon assured in a report that possible political solution to the crisis in Darfur, Sudan, is increasingly remote.
The UN leader’s January to March report says that both Khartoum and the rebels back a military solution to the conflict the rebels began over four years back in demand for political space and a share of the national wealth.
UN estimates calculate in at least 200,000 dead and 2.5 million displaced the aftermath at the violence stricken province, and the UN report regrets lack of progress in every front, including humanitarian support.
Ban particularly lashes at the international community failure to supply vital logistics support to the joint UN, African Union Mission (UNAMID), like copters, troops and means of transportation and artillery, to restore stability in the area.
UNAMID replaced early this year a retched African Union mission with little resources and 7,000 troops but it is understaffed: of the 26,000 military and policemen originally planned, there current 10,000 are not enough to control an area similar to France.
