NAM Calls to Safeguard Palestine Culture

Paris : The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) called on Thursday to safeguard the Palestinian heritage and that of other Arab occupied territories, before the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The NAM presentation to the UNESCO highlighted the importance of preserving the cultural and natural heritage and protecting educational institutions in Palestine and other Arab occupied territories, including the Syrian Golan.

In the UNESCO Executive Council session 179, in Paris, the Cuban ambassador to the UN agency Hector Hernandez, on behalf of the NAM presidency, analyzed the situation in eastern Jerusalem and other Arab occupied territories.

The call also referred to the UNESCO general director’s concern about the escalation of violence that has cause great suffering and loss of innumerable human lives, especially in the Gaza Strip.

The NAM group encouraged the UNESCO to continue the aid to the Palestinian people and educational institutions, through different educational and cultural projects.

He highlighted that there should not be hindrances for the Palestinians and all students and children within school ages are an integral part of the its social context and that they can be able to exercise they full right to education.
