Omar Abdullah jumps into the world of blogging

NC president becomes first Indian politician to write blog

By News Agency of Kashmir,

Jammu : The stars were already on the internet and now comes the turn of politicians. Sharing his personnel experiences, feelings and observations, National Conference president Omar Abdullah has joined the world of bloggers by starting his own blog on his party’s website.

After Bollywood’s Aamir Khan and Amitab Bachan, the internet savvy Omar Abdullah has started his own blog and invited people to leave comments and share their thoughts on various issues; which not only include politics.

Writing his first blog Omar has described his blogging as a new experience `with a certain amount of nervousness and trepidation’.

“For some time now I have been looking forward to setting up a blog linked to my party website on which I can share my thoughts on issues of politics, Kashmir or even the weather”, he said adding, “For various reasons this hasn”t happened till now but as my mother always said (and so too does Border roads on numerous signs dotting the National Highway) – better late than never”.

Omar promises to write everything he feels and his focous would not be the politics in Jammu and Kashmir. “There is so much about life in Kashmir and beyond that one can write about”. However, he says, “But the life of a blog is not the blogger but those who take the time out to read the blog and leave their comments”.

He adds, “I”m sure some, probably a lot, of what I have to say will provoke sharp reactions among the readers. I hope to provoke debate, discussion and through the comments that I receive, some amount of self improvement”.

Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that Omar becomes the first politician of his stature in India to start his own blog. The fact has also been acknowledged by junior Abdullah in his first post; “I am sending this first post knowing that bloggers among India’s politicians are few and far between. Someone has to make a start so why not me”.

Interestingly, soon after writing the first post, the NC president has written at least three posts, which includes one with the caption; ` Sheer frustration’. In this particular post, Omar has briefly discussed the information technology facilities in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We have a railway line being carved through the mountains to join Kashmir with the rest of India but I can’t use a Blackberry here, a service that is available to me everywhere I have travelled in the country”.

“I’ve written to the PM and the UPA Chairperson asking them to help us improve data connectivity in the state but I have no idea how long we are going to have to wait”.

Criticizing chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for opening the Srinagar – Leh highway in haste and thus risking lives of people, Omar in one of the post has left a suggestion; `Politicians should stick to politics and leave such things to the experts’.
