Addressing a press conference, here today various Muslim leaders alleged that successive governments have miserably failed to protect the waqf property in Jammu region and said, “Let government withdraw itself from the waqf affairs and allow Muslims to form a committee on the pattern of Gurduwara Prabandak committee to deal with the waqf affairs” the Muslim leaders demanded, adding government must immediately pull out the officers who are not working in the interest of the waqf and are favouring the land grabbers.

“Property worth crores of rupees has been squandered by the successive governments and the poor Muslims of this region whose fore-fathers have donated this land for the welfare of poor Muslims, widows and orphans have been deprived of this property by renting it out to the influential business houses for their own political and personal benefits” alleged the leaders.

While citing number of examples of mal-administration and cases of connivance with the land grabbers, Mohd Sharief Sartaj president Muslim action committee said that the Muslims of Jammu region have been denied their right to profess and practice their religion as their Mosques, Maqbaras, Zirats, Graveyards and Eid Gahs have been forcibly occupied by some anti-social elements and land grabbers.

He said a historical mosque was made functional at Chak Jaffar in Marh Block but the local MLA got it closed by instigating local populace. Ironically no action was taken against these persons by the administration instead they are being supported by the government.
