New Delhi : The Indian girls failed to qualify for the world group final of the Junior Tennis, losing 1-2 to Australia in the quarterfinals of the U-16 Asia-Oceania Qualifying Tournament in Shenzen, China Thursday.
In the first singles, Natasha Palha went down to Australia’s Molly Polak 1-6, 2-6, while Victoria Lucic defeated Ratnika Batra 6-4, 6-1 in the second singles rubber.
However, the Indian girls pulled off a win in the doubles encounter to restore some pride. The Indian pair of Batra and Prarthna Thombre prevailed over Polak and Rachel Pisarev 6-4, 7-5.
The Indian boys booked their place in the world group final to be held in the Czech Republic in August by finishing joint third along with Australia last week.
