Dalai Lama back in India after US visit

Dharamsala : Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama returned to India Saturday after his successful fortnight-long visit to the US, a spokesman of the Tibetan government-in-exile said from its headquarters here.

US Under Secretary of State Paula Dobriansky called on him April 21 at the University of Michigan.

The State Department has stated that the meeting was part of the ongoing efforts to facilitate dialogue between the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government.

Besides holding a five-day long talk on compassion attended by some 14,400 people, he also interacted with important religious figures including Desmond Tutu of South Africa, the spokesman said.

He was also conferred an honorary degree by the University of Washington.

The Tibetan government-in-exile is not recognised by any country in the world.
