Minsk : Russian Defense Minister Anatoli Serdiukov began a 48-hour visit to Belarus to discuss bilateral military cooperation.
Serdiukov and his counterpart Leonid Maltsev will head a joint top level meeting to assess the quality of the regional military logistics and radio exchange.
The agenda includes a visit to Volgaradar station in Baranovichi, Belarus. The early warning system, under control of Russian special troops, detects ballistic missiles and space ships miles away.
Colonel General Pavel Kozlovsky, ex defense minister of Belarus, said Russiawould be totally blind on its western flank without Baranovichifor other technology can only control around 37 miles.
The meeting will also involve members of the Permanent Committee of the Russia-Belarus Unified State.
The parties agreed at the October 2007 meeting to strengthen political-military cooperation and coordinate defense to face the Eastward expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) and the USanti-missile shield, concluded Serdiukov.
