Kuwait : The Fourth World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF), themed “Islamic Countries: Partners in Global Development,” will continue its activities for the second day Wednesday with a number of sessions in which top state officials, economists and important personalities in the oil sector will take part.
The first session will be on “The Muslim World as a Burgeoning Market,” presided by Chairman of Kuwait Chamber for Commerce and Industry Ali Thunayan Al-Ghanim, with the participation of former Finance Minister Bader Al-Humaidhi, Arab League Assistant Secretary for Economic Affairs Dr. Mohammad Al-Tuwaijri, President of Japan’s Institute for International Monetary Affairs Toyoo Gyoten, and Dr. Izzat Dajani from Ras Al-Khaima Investment Authority.
The second session will be on “The Future of Energy in a Changing World” and presided by Minister of Electricity and Water and Acting Oil Minister Mohammad Al-Olaim. Participants include Iranian Oil Minister Ghilam Hossein Nozari, Kazakh Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Souot Mynbayev, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s Managing Director for Planning Jamal Al-Nouri, and Senior Partner at F and N Consultancy Company Nader Al-Sultan.
As for the third session for today, it will be on “Economic Partnership Between the GCC and the Muslim World.” The session will be presided by Finance Minister and Acting Commerce and Industry Minister Mustafa Al-Shimali, and participants include former GCC Secretary General Abdullah Bishara, Chairman and Director General of the Arab Monetary Fund Dr. Jassem Al-Mannai, CEO of HSBC Middle East Yousef Nasser, and President of Malaysia’s Khazanah National Dato Azman Mokhtar.
The final session for the day is entitled “The Role of Investment in Poverty Reduction,” presided by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. Participants include former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke, Indonesian State Minister for Enterprises Sofyan Jalil, Chairman and Director General of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development Abdullatif Al-Hamad, Chairman of Brunei’s Economic Development Board Dato Timothy Ong, and the Islamic Development Bank’s Vice President for Operations Dr. Amado Boubakr Cisse.
The WIEF was inaugurated yesterday by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and will conclude tomorrow.
