Zimbabwe MDC Declared Election Winner

Harare : The Zimbabwean Electoral Commission, confirmed Movement for Democratic Change winner of the March 29 elections on Tuesday and called presidential candidates or their representatives to meet Thursday to reach consensus on the results.

ZEC Chair George Chiweshe reported that the presidential candidates or their delegates will be given an explanation about the compiled data which recounted 23 districts that were suspected of fraud.

Based on an illegal exit poll, MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai asserted that he had won over 50 percent of the votes for the presidential post.

Governing African National Union of Zimbabwe Patriotic Front of outgoing President Robert Mugabe has demanded a second voting round.
