Mola, Turkey : President Bashar al-Assad and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyeb Erdogan have held discussions here on bilateral relations and the tangible developments achieved between both countries during recent years.
During a meeting Tuesday held at al-Assad’s residence in Turkey, the two sides showed commitment to consolidate ties and develop them in the interest of both friendly peoples.
Talks concentrated on the indirect peace negotiations between Syria and Israel under Turkish mediation, and the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive peace in the region according to the Madrid peace conference.
Erdogan appreciated Syria’s positive role that helps give political solutions to regional issues, saying “President al-Assad’s visit to Turkey will consolidate ties between both countries and push them forward.”
The two sides expressed support for the ongoing political process in Iraq and the need for achieving national reconciliation among different Iraqi sects, underlining the importance of regaining security and stability in Iraq which is very important to Syria and Turkey.
They stressed significance of restoring the Palestinian rank unity in a way that makes them capable of getting back their rights, on top the establishment of a Palestinian independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The two leaders described talks as constructive and useful. They agreed to continue consultation and coordination regarding different issues of interest for the two countries to be positively reflected on their peoples.
Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem and the Political and Media Advisor at the state presidency Buthaina Sha’aban attended the meeting.
