Beirut : According to the latest reports by security sources, the powerful explosion that rocked the Lebanese city of Tripoli earlier Wednesday left nine people dead including 7 military personnel and some 31 others injured.
Security sources told KUNA the blast was the result of an explosive device going off at a bus station where a bus was to be boarded by civilians and military employees heading to work.
In addition to the 9 killed and 31 injured, the blast caused damage to several buildings and vehicles, they added.
Ambulances rushed to the scene of the blast and the bodies and the injured are being taken to hospitals.
Security forces meanwhile cordoned the area and started an investigation into the incident.
Tripoli was recently the scene of violent clashes between loyalists and opposition supporters which left scores between dead and wounded.
