Dera chief fails to appear in sex case hearing

By IANS,

Ambala : Controversial Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh Saturday failed to appear before a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Haryana to hear framing of rape charges against him.

The counsel for the sect chief submitted a medical certificate to the judge asking that he be exempted from the hearing as he was ill.

This is the third time the sect chief has failed to appear before the special CBI court here.

The CBI has submitted its charge sheet against the Dera chief accusing him of rape of a young ‘sadhvi’ (female religious follower) at his sect headquarters campus near Sirsa town in Haryana, 250 km from here.

The court fixed the next hearing for Sep 6. The sect chief’s counsel assured the court that he will appear at the next hearing.

The sect chief is facing two cases of murder conspiracy and one charge of rape in the court here.
