Ghei, Lahiri slip in Brunei Open golf

Bandar Seri Begawan : India’s Gaurav Ghei slipped down the ladder with a two-over 73 despite a late eagle in the third round of the $300,000 Brunei Open here Saturday.

Ghei, eighth after the second round, is now four-under for three rounds and lying 32nd. Also in the 32nd spot is Anirban Lahiri, who shot an even par 71 for a three-day total of four-under 209.

The third Indian who made the cut was Rahil Gangjee, who shot a dismal 76 and slipped to 61st from overnight 41st.

Australian rookie Rick Kulacz surged into the third round lead with Asia’s most prolific winner Thaworn Wiratchant and South Korea’s Ted Oh snapping close on his heels.

Kulacz, playing in his first season on the Asian Tour, fired a flawless four-under-par 67 to snatch a one-shot lead from Thai star Thaworn, who holds a record 10 titles in the region, and overnight leader Oh.

Thaworn dropped a bogey at his last hole for a 66 at a blustery Empire Hotel and Country Club while Oh, bidding for his maiden Asian Tour title, battled to a 71.

Last year’s runner-up Adam Le Vesconte of Australia shot a 67 to move into contention alongside compatriot Andrew Dodt (66), Thailand’s Somkiat Srisanga (70) and Chinese Taipei’s Lu Wen-teh (69).
