Rain hits England practice at Abu Dhabi

By IANS,

Abu Dhabi : England’s training session for the two-Test series against India was cramped by heavy rains Saturday, restricting the practice to just half-an-hour.

The England team is camping here en route India, awaiting security clearance for the Test series starting Dec 11 in Chennai.

With the warm-up match in Vadodara cancelled because of Mumbai terror strikes, the squad will have to do with makeshift practice arrangements.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will take a final call Sunday on sending the team to India. However, the fears of airstrikes at Indian airports, have cast fresh doubts on the tour that England cut short after
the Mumbai terror attacks.

Managing director of England cricket Hugh Morris, Professional Cricketers’ Association chief executive Sean Morris and security advisor Reg Dickason will report to the ECB on the security assessment.

If given a green signal by the security experts, England will return to India Monday.

“We are concerned but we have faith in the people who are at the top. I am sure the ECB and the Indian cricket board will come up with the right decisions. Hopefully, we should all leave for India Monday morning,” Paul
Collingwood said.
