The explosive material, weighing about 100 grams, was found in a plastic bag kept under a sofa in front of the reception counter of the Crescent Hospital in Dhantoli area, Joint Police Commissioner B.J. Kangale told IANS.

The material was found by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad after an anonymous caller had said two live bombs were planted in the hospital, Kangale said.

The BDD squad was rushed to the spot minutes after the police control room received intimation about the call from hospital director Aziz Khan.

The call was traced to a public call office in the city’s Sitabuldi area not far from Dhantoli.

The PCO operator told the police that a young man in the age group of 22-25 made the call and fled, Kangale added.

The police were already on alert in view of the 16th anniversary of the Babri mosque demolition.
