Soren threatens to sack minister for fielding poll rival

By IANS,

Ranchi : Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren Thursday threatened to sack Rural Development Minister Enos Ekka if he did not withdraw a candidate of his Jharkhand Party from a forthcoming by-election that he is contesting.

“Ekka will be sacked from the cabinet if he does not withdraw his party’s candidate from the Tamar assembly constituency by-election,” Soren told reporters here.

Ekka’s party has fielded Raja Peter from Tamar for the Dec 29 by-poll.

State United Progressive Alliance (UPA) leaders Wednesday night decided to field Soren as their joint candidate in the by-election.

“When the UPA has unanimously decided to support me in the by-election, why did Ekka field a candidate of his party? If Ekka fails to withdraw the candidate before the winter session (of the assembly), we will sack him from the cabinet,” said Soren.
