Nairobi : An earthquake shook western Rwanda Sunday morning,killing at least 21 people and injuring hundreds, reports said.
The tremor measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale destroyed buildings, including a church in Rusizi district, the BBC reported, killing at least 10 people inside.More than 200 people were injured.
The epicentre of the quake was 20 km east of Bukavu, in east Congo, across the border from Rwanda, where several buildings were turned to rubble, UN-backed Congolese Radio Okapi reported.
Geologist Dieudonné Wafula said aftershocks were expected and warned people to remain outside and away from buildings.
The US Geological Survey said the tremor was felt as far away as the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
