Turkish Planes Bomb Northern Iraq

By Prensa Latina

Ankara : Turkey carried out new military raids in northern Iraq at dawn Monday, bombing as many as 70 alleged targets of the illegal PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) in Abril, where the borders of Turkey, Iraq and Iran converge.

Anatolia news agency reported a Turkish Armed Forces’ General Staff dispatch said the operation involving five fighter planes lasted three hours and reported no retaliation.

In October the Turkish Parliament authorized the Army to make incursions onto Iraqi soil against supposed positions of the PKK, which has been fighting for Kurdish autonomy in southern Turkey since 1984.
