Kinshasa : About 40 people were killed and 300 wounded as a result of earthquakes near the Great Lake regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, sources from the Congolese government reported Monday.
Rwandan authorities stated that almost over 30 citizens were killed after the roof of a church collapsed.
The epicenter of one of the tremors reached six degrees on the Richter scale, and was located in the eastern Congolese city of Bukavu.
There was another five-degree tremor one and a half hour later in the Rwandan locality of Rusizi.
According to reports, officials from the Rwandan government continued today rescue operations to save people trapped among the ruins of their houses.
