London : The British Immigration Minister Liam Byrne has arrived in India to start a national and international consultation on changes to UK’s visa system.
The Minister’s visit to India, as well as holding community events in London and across the UK, is a part of an exercise to solicit views and opinions on some of the issues raised by the recent consultation ‘Visitors – A Consultation Paper’ which will run until March 10.
The changes are part of the biggest shake up to Britain’s border security and immigration system in 45 years.
A Home Office spokesman told APP that the Minister has no plans as yet to visit Pakistan but the consultations in UK will also cover the Muslim community settled in UK, majority of which has its origin in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, two Muslim delegates named in an earlier original Home Office press release have not accompanied the delegation. The spokesman attributed their names in the release as a ‘mistake’. They were councillor Kemal Butt and former Mayor of Brent Ahmad Shahzad.
The delegation now in India includes Liam Byrne, Dr.Rami Ranger MBE (Chairman Indo British Friendship Society),Cllr Pritpal Singh (British Asian Conservative Link), Gurpal Gill (Chairman British Multicultural Forum) and Cllr Parmajit Singh
Gill.
