Shimla : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal Wednesday urged President Pratibha Patil to direct the defence ministry to hand back a disputed ground to the state government.

Dhumal met the president at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi and sought her intervention, a state government spokesman said. The president is the supreme commander of the armed forces.

The sprawling and scenic Annadale ground here has been with the army for decades. The state government maintains that its lease expired over two decades ago. Annadale is also Shimla’s largest ground.
