New Delhi : Spaniard Jose Manuel Lara guided the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI) team to victory in the EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters Pro Am at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) here Wednesday.
The WGAI team, which comprised amateurs Satish Tandon, V.S. Singh and Devin Narang, carded a net 57 to take the honours, one shot ahead of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) team that comprised of Raphael Jacquelin, Gautam Thapar, Sanjay Labroo and Rana Talwar.
The DGC team of Richard Finch, Gagan Verma, Karan Vasudeva and Pawan Kumar finished third on a net 59, beating the second WGAI team comprising Gonzalo Fdez-Catano, Vidhur Chopra, Anupama Singh and Madhushree Birla on a count-back.
World No.4 Ernie Els led his EMAAR-MGF team which included Pawan Munjal, R.K. Bhattacharya and J. Daulatsingh to a sixth place finish on a net 60. Jeev Milkha Singh, featuring for another EMAAR-MGF team, settled for the seventh place, also on a net 60.
The amateurs in the team included G.N. Bajbai, Raj Khosla and V.K. Duggal.
The event, which attracted 23 teams, provided some of the leading professionals a final chance to fine-tune their game ahead of the main event starting Thursday.
The curtain raiser to the first $2.5 million European Tour event was a great opportunity for amateurs to rub shoulders with some of the finest players in the world.
