1 body recovered, rescue operation on

Srinagar : One person was killed and two others including a twelve year old girl were seriously injured and around 45 were trapped when an avalanche hit Gulab Bagh Gujjar Basti Quazigund area of South Kashmir, early on Friday morning. Another lady in same belt died of cardiac arrest due to heavy snow fall.
Army, police and civil administration including the locals of the area has reached the spot and launched rescue operation.
Informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that one person was killed and 45 others were trapped in an avalanche at Gulab Bagh Gujjar Basti near Tool post on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, this morning.
News Agency of Kashmir was informed by one of the victim Yaqoob Gujjar, whose Doka also buried under avalanche, over phone that about eight families were buried under the avalanche triggered due to heavy snowfall in the area.
It is pertinent to mention here, that the district administration and police including the troops of 49 RR were also informed by the News Agency of Kashmir about the incident.
“We were informed by one of the journalist Farooq Ganai from Jammu over phone about the incident” Major Achariya of 49 RR said adding soon after receipt of information a group of twenty jawans were deputed to the area for rescue operation.
He said that SHO Quazigund Riyaz Ahmed along with the police party also reached the spot while the locals of the area were assisting the troops and police in rescue operation.
Deputy Commissioner who was also informed by NAK said that police and army has been deputed for rescue operation, adding effective measures were being taken to evacuate the families from the avalanche.
“We have recovered one body and two persons were rescued so far”, Shabir another victim told News Agency of Kashmir adding, “More than 45 persons were feared dead in the incident”.
The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Shafi Chichi son of Makhan while two critically injured including a twelve years old shubi have been shifted to Hospital.
Meanwhile, Sources told NAK that another lady Saja wife of Ali Muhammad of Rain Chowgund died of cardiac arrest due to heavy snowfall.
About ten feet of snow has accumulated in the upper reaches of Kapran belt of Doru Shahbad.
Rescue operation was going on till the last reports came in.
