Algiers : Director-General of the Algerian security Colonel Ali Tunisi said on Friday that 140,000 policemen are currently deployed across all provinces under a program to ensure the national territory against all forms of crime.
Tunisi said in a press statement that this number will increase this year to reach 200,000 policemen, a quest that the security authorities seek to reach for the sake of establishing security all over the country and at all levels of society.
He stressed that doubling the number of security men across the Algerian territory would allow the country to achieve development projects safely.
Meanwhile, an armed group has assassinated five Algerian security elements in the area of Wadi Suf, some 580 kilometres east of the Algerian capital.
A security source said that the armed group took by surprise the security agents who were on board two cars and fired bullets towards them.
The same source added that four of the security elements sustained injuries and were transferred to nearby hospitals.
