Arab League delegation in Damascus to check preparations for summit

Damascus : A delegation representing the Arab League on Tuesday discussed with Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Faisal Al-Miqdad preparations underway for holding the next Arab League summit in Damascus.

Arab League Assistant Secretary General Ahmad Bin Heli “expressed satisfaction at the preparations underway” and said he is confident the summit will be special and will consolidate Arab unity, a statement by the Syrian Foreign Ministry said.

It underlined the efforts made by the Syrian government to meet the challenges involved in the summit and pointed out that both sides were pleased at the efforts being made.

Meanwhile, Syria has already started to send invitations to Arab Leaders to attend the summit with letters from Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad sent to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Jordanian King Abdallah II and Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Al-Saleh.

The letters have so far been delivered by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem.
