India”s energy major Reliance discovers gas along the country”s eastern

New Delhi : India’s leading private sector energy major — Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Wednesday announced that it has made its first gas discovery in a deep sea exploratory block off the Krishna basin along the country’s Southern coastal state of Andhra Pradesh.

“RIL is pleased to announce the first gas discovery in exploratory block KG-DWN-2003/1 (KG-V-D3) off the Krishna basin,” RIL said in a statement here today.

The block is located about 50 km from Machalipatnam in Andhra Pradesh in the deep waters of the Krishna Basin in the Bay of Bengal,” the company said.

The gas discovery has been struck in the very first exploratory well. The well flowed at a rate of 38.1 million standard cubic feet per day on conventional testing,” the RIL said.

“RIL holds 90 per cent participating interest while the rest is held by UK-based petroleum company Hardy Oil,” the statement added.
