New Delhi : It was like the weather gods blessing all the love-struck couples on the Valentine’s Day Thursday with a warm and sunny day. But the nights continue to remain cold with minimum temperatures dipping below normal in the national capital.

The mixed bag weather continued for Delhi as the night-time temperature continued to be pegged at around six degrees Celsius for the third consecutive day. The mercury dipped to 6.2 degrees Celsius in the city but a warm and sunny day pushed up the maximum temperature to nearly 22 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperatures across the northern plains were below the normal. Chandigarh and Lucknow recorded minimum temperatures around five degrees.

The lowest temperature in the plains was -1.1 degrees Celsius recorded at Amritsar in Punjab.

The met office said that the cold wave has also moved to central and eastern parts of the country. Kolkata saw the mercury plunging to 12 degrees Celsius, lowest for the month of February in the last decade.

“Cold wave conditions are prevailing over most parts of central India and adjoining east and many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and some parts of Gujarat,” said a weather bulletin from the Indian Metrological Department (IMD).

The Met Office forecast that the cold wave in central and eastern parts may continue in next couple of days till Saturday.

The worse seems to over for the other metropolis that has been reeling under unprecedented cold this winter – Mumbai. The minimum temperature in the city Thursday rose to 17 degrees Celsius while the maximum touched a hot and humid 30 degrees Celsius.

The month of February saw the temperatures in Mumbai touching the lowest in the last 40 years.
