Akash Sahu poured kerosene on Basanti, a divorcee, with whom he was in a relationship for over two years, Thursday morning and set her on fire.

“She had come to meet Ashok in the morning and once again asked him when he was going to marry her. This led to a quarrel between them and Ashok poured kerosene on her and set her afire,” Jabalpur Kotwali police station in-charge told IANS by phone.

Basanti, who sustained 90 percent burns, is struggling for life in Jabalpur’s Victoria Hospital. Ashok has been arrested.

The police have charged him with attempt to murder and sent him to jail.
