Madrid : Spain’s governing PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) will win the March 9 elections by a narrow margin, defeating opposition PP (Popular Party), survey released on Friday predicts.

The CIS (Sociological Research Center) survey found that PSOE, led by current President of Government Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, will get 40.2 percent of the vote versus 38.7 percent for the Mariano Rajoy-led PP.

This narrow difference will only secure 10 seats for the socialists over the populares.

According to the projection, PSOE will get 158-163 seats and PP 152-157 of the total of 350 members of the Congress of Deputies.

In the last elections of March 2004, the party led by Rodriguez Zapatero won by 42.6 percent against the PP’s 37.7 percent.
