Cairo : Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held talks Saturday with visiting King Abdullah II of Jordan at the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on the regional situation, the official MENA news agency reported.

The two leaders discussed the situation in the Palestinian territories and efforts made to revive the stalled Mideast peace process, said the report.

The situation in the sieged Palestinian territory of Gaza Stripis likely to become more complicated as Israel has been threatening to increase attacks in Gaza in response to the continuing rocket attacks launched by Gaza militants against southern Israel territories.

On the current Lebanese political crisis, President Mubarak and King Abdullah probed Arab efforts exerted to reach a deal by the Lebanese groups over electing a new president for the country, said MENA.

Lebanon is facing the worst political crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war.

The presidential seat has been vacant since former President Emile Lahoud ended his term on Nov. 24, 2007, and the sharply divided Lebanese parliament has delayed the elections for 14 times without a consensus.

The two Arab leaders also talked about the situation in Iraq, Somalia and the western Sudanese region of Darfur, said MENA.
