Pakistan parties say to accept elections results

Lahore : Former Chief Minister of Punjab and central leader of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that all political parties should accept the election results with open heart because those who do not accept the results would be doing no service to democracy and the country.

While talking to media after polling his vote in his hometown Gujrat at Government Girls Primary School, on Monday, he said for the first time in the country’s history the parliament has completed its constitutional tenure and the people were taking part in a democratic process in a free manner.

Meanwhile, PML President and former Prime Minister Ch Shujat Hussain also polled his vote in the morning at Municipal Boys High School polling station, Gujrat. Hundreds of party workers were also present.

Ch Pervaiz Elahi said the PML would sweep the elections not only in Punjab but in other provinces including Balochistan, Sindh and NWFP also.

He said the Election Day has passed peacefully and the country was heading towards a democratic process.

He said the people should rise above their personal interests and work for the strengthening of the country and democracy.

To a query about turnout, he said in rural areas it was high and in urban areas the turnout was satisfactory and the people had used their right to vote in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

About his meeting with US senators and US ambassador, Pervaiz said they had praised the reforms of the PML government in education, health, industrial and infrastructure sectors. He said he had told the US team that the PML candidates were contesting the polls on their performance as the party candidates has lot to tell to the voters.
