US President in Tanzania

By Prensa Latina

Dar es Salaam : US President George W. Bush arrived in Arusha, northern Tanzania on Monday, as part of his African tour, during which he plans to reinforce long-term US interests.

His positive image to Tanzanians was the promise to distribute 5.2 million free mosquito nets for the struggle against malaria.

Tanzania is the second leg of the tour that started in Benin, West Africa on Saturday, and will take him to Rwanda, Ghana and Liberia.

His agenda includes issues very sensitive for this continent, such as malaria, which kills 1.2 million people, mostly Africans, every year, according to the World Health Organization.

On Sunday, the US president and his Tanzanian peer Jakaya Kikwete signed an agreement for $698 million in US aid over five years.
