Islamabad : The Quaid of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Mian Nawaz Sharif has asked President Pervez Musharraf to step down and act upon the advice of the people of Pakistan which has been very clearly voiced in these elections.

He stated this while giving an exclusive interview to the BBC.

He said that his party has contested the elections under extremely hard conditions and the stage was set for the election to be rigged by Musharraf.

“He did rig them to some extent. My papers were rejected and then of course the public money was used,” he said.

He blamed the chairmen of district boards for playing a very vital role for the King’s party and accused Pervez Musharraf of making a personal appeal to the people of this country for the King’s party candidates.

When he was asked that why he complained for rigging as his party has done quite well, he said that his party has also been doing very well in the past.

“Musharraf did not allow me to come to my country despite the verdict of the Supreme Court and my nomination papers were rejected,” he said.

He elaborated that the King’s party is not a proper party, rather, it is a set-up of certain individuals.

He said that he enjoys very strong support base in the masses and of course the people of this country agree with the PML-N policies and its agenda.

Lauding the struggle of the civil society, he said that they strongly supported his party because his cause is very noble, which is the restoration of democracy and also the rule of law and the independence of judiciary and freedom of press.
