Noida : An Uttar Pradesh Police constable, attacked by a man alleged to be insane, Friday succumbed to his injuries in a local hospital.
A man, said to be mentally unstable, Wednesday attacked Constable Rishi Pal who was on duty outside Spice Mall here.
City Superintendent of Police R.K. Gautam said the attacker, identified as Hari Prasad Paswan, hit Pal with a heavy stone on his head. Pal collapsed on the spot and Paswan hit him again with another stone.
A police sub-inspector, patrolling the area, nabbed Paswan and took him into custody. During sustained interrogation, Paswan disclosed that he was a watchman with a private company.
The assailant also attempted to pose as a mentally challenged person during the interrogation.
The police have registered a case of murder and Paswan has been remanded in judicial custody by a local court.
