Iraq, Suicide Attacks and Turkey

By Prensa Latina

Baghdad : A suicider set off an explosive belt attached to his body inside a bus in north Iraq and the police count is 40 dead while the media talks of 14.

The report says the bus was heading to Syria at the time of the attack in Tamarat, west Mosul, Ninive, adding that there were children and women among the victims.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Parliament approved a draft bill to provisionally replace the old flag for 12 months until a new one is approved.

The replacement respects the old colors but eliminates the symbols linked to late ex President Sadam Husein, and was hoisted on government buildings in Salahedin, north Iraq, first region of Sunni majority to officially recognize the colors.

The Iraqi Parliament also asked Turkey to withdraw immediately from the north, following five days of operations against guerrillas from the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK).

A release from the PKK President Mahmud Al-Mashadani terms the Turkish incursion a flagrant violation of sovereignty, claimning “they are destroying north Iraq’s infrastructure and forcing the families to flee their homes.”

Al-Mashadani urged Turkey to pull out and stop the aggression he calls serious threat for regional security, and called the Turkish government to honor international laws on relations, sovereignty and respect for other states.
