Beijing : China praised Raul Castro for his election as new president of Cuba and conveyed respect for the Cuban people”s choice.
China”s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao said China and Cuba are friends, and China will promote with the island bilateral, friendly cooperation and mutual benefit.
The official wished Cuba success with its stability and development with the new head of states, in line with the people”s interest, which adds to regional peace and stability, added Liu Jianchao.
On Fidel Castro, historic leader of the Revolution who opted not to accept a new term, Jianchao called him an international figure and good friend of China.
He noted that Fidel Castro helped expand friendship between both countries and made historic contributions to bilateral ties.
