Colombo : The Sri Lankan government Wednesday unilaterally withdrew from the Norway-sponsored 2002 ceasefire agreement, which it had signed with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a defence spokesman here said.

“The cabinet tonight (Wednesday) decided to annul and abrogate the agreement as it was a mere scrap of paper and had failed to bring peace to the country,” the spokesman, Keheliya Rambukwella, told IANS.
