Kolkata : Mohun Bagan defeated Mahindra United by a solitary goal to keep their winning momentum going in the I-league football tournament here Saturday.
The all important goal came in the 67th minute when Brazilian striker Jose Ramirez Barreto rose above his markers to head home a James Singh cross to the dismay of Mahindra United keeper Sandip Nandy.
With this win Mohun Bagan rose to the fourth spot on the I-League ladder with 14 points from nine games, while Mahindra remained on 11 from as many games.
Mohun Bagan showed more fancy and determination as they raided the goal of the Mumbai outfit repeatedly as Brazilian Carlos Pareirra maintained the team’s offensive make-up.
They missed a couple of chances in the first half, but the all-important goal came in the second to seal the fate of Mahindra United.
