Raipur : At least six employees were killed and three others seriously injured Saturday afternoon in an accident inside a steel unit on the outskirts of the Chhattisgarh capital here, police said.
“Six labourers were charred to death in a tragic accident at Godawari Ispat, a private steel unit, when some hot steel came down on the them,” Y.K.S. Thakur, inspector general, told IANS. He added that the injured workers were battling for their lives at a hospital here.
The steel unit is based at Urla-Siltara industrial area, some 22 km from the city centre. The accident took place when workers were carrying out maintenance work.
Thakur added that the charred bodies were beyond recognition. Police have registered a case against the steel unit management and have begun a detailed probe into the accident, he said.
