Beirut : Arab League secretary general Amr Moussa said Sunday his talks in Beirut and Damascus were “full of work and have some results” but it was a long way that needed extra efforts and contacts.

“This round was full of work and some results, but the road needed extra efforts and contacts,” Moussa told reporters at the airport before leaving Lebanon, where he held a series of meetings with officials from the majority and opposition in yet another attempt to bridge the gaps to address the presidential standoff.

He said the next step would be the Arab foreign ministers’ meeting, scheduled for January 27, to discuss the Arab peace plan that aimed at tackling the presidential crisis.

“We will not stop working from the side of conducting extra contacts between the Arab parties, and will having contacts with Lebanese leaders and politicians,” said Moussa who hoped a breakthrough would be achieved. “Obstacles are many and the situation is complicated but we are not against a dead end,” he added.

Moussa, who said he could return to Beirut, had met with Parliament speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Fuad Siniora and head of the Future Bloc MP Saad Hariri.

The Arab three-phase plan to salvage Lebanon calls for electing army commander General Michel Suleiman, forming a government of national unity and wording a new elections’ law.
