India to showcase its military might on 59th Republic Day

New Delhi, Jan 25, IRNA ,The vibrant tapestry of India’s military prowess woven with its economic progress and rich cultural diversity to be showcased on the historic Rajpath in New Delhi Saturday as the country celebrates the 59th Republic Day on 26th January, amid tight security.

President, Pratibha Patil will unfurl the national flag and will take the salute of the impressive and elegant parade, which this year will be watched by the chief guest, French President, Nicolas Sarkozy.

In India’s Republic Day ceremony, the latest achievements of the country and the states are displayed.

A variety of new equipment like an indigenously-developed Experimental Tank, the awesome T-90 Main Battle Tank (MBT) and a mobile launcher for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile will be on display for the first time during the Republic Day Parade here Saturday.

Following this will be 10 mechanized columns, eight marching contingents and a flypast by the indigenously developed Dhruv advanced light helicopters of the Army Aviation Corps.

The parade is followed by a pageant of spectacular displays from the different states of the country.

Each display brings out the diversity and richness of the culture of India and the whole show lends a festive air to the occasion.

The President of India, will address the Nation Friday evening on the eve of the 59th Republic Day.

The Republic Day Parade is an annual military and cultural parade which is celebrated with the hoisting of the national flag, and parades by the armed forces and school children all over the country.

26th January 1950 is one of the most important days in Indian history as it was on this day the constitution of India came into force and India became a truly sovereign state.

On this day India became a totally republican unit.

So, the 26th of January was decreed a national holiday and has been recognized and celebrated as the Republic Day of India, ever since.

The patriotic fervor of the people on this day brings the whole country together even in her essential diversity.

Every part of the country is represented in occasion, which makes the Republic Day the most popular of all the national holidays of India.
