Islamabad : Two soldiers were killed and three others wounded in a Pakistani northern town Saturday when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a security checkpost, while militants fired rockets in two other areas causing no human or material loss.
A suicide bomber, aged 17-20, blew himself up at a security checkpost in Der area of northern Pakistan, police sources told KUNA. They said the explosion killed two soldiers and wounded three others.
Meanwhile, suspected militants fired a rocket in Peshawar city that landed in the posh Hayatabad area. City police chief Imtiaz Shah said the rocket was fired from the nearby tribal area of Khyber agency.
However, he said, it did not cause any human or property loss.
In a related incident, a missile landed in the cantonment area of Kohat town. Police sources said the missile was fired from the adjacent Dera Admakhel town, where security forces were carrying out operation against militants for the release of four captured ammunition trucks.
The missile landed near Government Post Office (GPO) building but there was no human loss or property damage reported. Military cordoned off the area and has put security on red alert.
Also, security forces launched an operation in Bajaur tribal agency after militants fired rockets at a scouts camp. Security officials said that gunship helicopters pounded militants suspected hideouts.
There were conflicting reports of casualties. Officials said no casualties were reported but tribal sources said more than five militants were killed and a number of them sustained injuries.
