Nairobi : At least 45 persons died in fierce clashes in the Kenyan region of Nakuru in the last 72 hours, 19 of them killed between Friday and Saturday, police reported.
Men with machetes and guns started the fighting on Thursday night, and due to that a curfew was imposed in that area of Rift Valley, where about 15 persons lost their lives and tens were wounded on Friday.
Violence began in Nakuru after the Orange Democratic Movement of opposition leader Raila Odinga considered that the December 17 elections were rigged, claiming for holding new elections or the resignation of the head of State.
Clashes in the last few weeks have already left more than 700 dead and 250,000 displaced.
So far, various reconciliation attempts have failed, including the one made by the President of Ghana and the African Union John Kufour.
A mediation group, formed by various African personalities, including former UN secretary general Kofi Annan, travelled to Nairobi to find a solution.
