Jakarta : An 6.6 Richter scale earthquake has shaken the Indonesian Barat Daya Islands on Wednesday without victims or material damage, reported Antara news agency.
The authorities immediately issued a tsunami alert although there are no signs of heavy swells.
The tremor’s epicenter was six miles down and 186 miles northeast of Dili, Timor Leste’s capital.
A strong earthquake near the Indonesian island of Sumatra in December 2004 triggered a huge tsunami that killed over 200,000 people in a dozen nations of the region.
