New Delhi : A helicopter convoy carrying Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, which was returning from the eastern tourist hub of Arugambay, came under suspected Tiger fire on Tuesday vening, which resulted din slight damage to one of the backup security copters.
The helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing.
The helicopter convoy came under gunfire. The oil tank of one of the choppers was hit, Asian Age reported here quoting Sri Lankan Air Force spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara
Military sources said President Rajapakse was not travelling in the convoy.
Earlier, the military insisted that the copter had only suffered a technical snag. Pro-Tiger TamilNet website said the helicopter fleet of President Rajapakse was hit by LTTE rockets.
