Lucknow : As many as 80 per cent inspectors in police stations of Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow are not aware of the notorious criminals operating in their jurisdiction.

Most of them go scurrying for cover if asked what action they had initiated in the recent past against history-sheeters or their current location. They can’t even say how many investigations are under progress or taken to conclusion.

These facts came out in a written test for cops initiated by Lucknow senior superintendent of police Akhil Kumar. Inspectors of 37 police stations took the test Sunday.

The results were revealing. “Only seven of them were successful in obtaining B-plus (good performance) grade and others were not even close,” informed Kumar.

The cops were also quizzed about the criminal activities in their circle, action initiated to prevent crime, initiative taken to transfer cases to fast track courts, and the like, he added.

“The good performers managed around 60 per cent marks only… they also need to improve”, Kumar said.

Three Circle Officer’s (deputy superintendents of police) also volunteered for the test but only one of them, Subhash Chandra Dubey, CO Gomati Nagar and undergoing IPS training, managed to clear the test.

Also taking the test were 25 other sub-inspectors who are posted in Lucknow and aspire to the post of station officer. Only two of them managed to clear the exam.

Terming the outcome of the test to be an eye-opener, Kumar said corrective measures would be initiated soon.

“All have been given time to improve. Action would also be initiated soon against the non-performers and they will be removed”, said Kumar.
