Serbia Gets A New Pro-European Government

Belgrade : The Serbian parliament approved a new pro-European coalition government after receiving the majority of votes early on Tuesday, Russia’s Itar-Tass news agency reported.

The new Prime Minister Mirko Tsvetkovic, from the Democratic Party, will lead the cabinet, with 127 deputies voted for the new cabinet of ministers.

250 deputies stood for the contest.

The cabinet has 24 ministries and 27 government members, including the prime minister and his four vice-premiers.

The newly introduced post of the first vice-premier who has extensive powers has gone to Ivica Dacic, the leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia, who will also head the Interior Ministry.

Another Vice-Premier Bozidar Dzelic (the Democratic Party of Boris Tadic) has been appointed the Minister of Science and Technological Development, Mladjan Dinkic will occupy the post of the vice-premier and Minister of Economic and Regional Development.

Jovan Krkobabic from the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia, a coalition partner of the Socialist Party of Serbia, also became a vice-premier.

Vuk Jeremic and Dragan Sutanovac will continue keeping the posts of Foreign and Defence Ministers, respectively.

Both of them are members of the Democratic Party of President Boris Tadic.

Dijana Dragutinovic from the same party has replaced Mirko Tsvetkovic, the new prime minister, as Serbia’s Finance Minister.
