Wellington : New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark said on Wednesday she accepted her Labor Party is behind in the opinion polls, but denied the lead is as big as the surveys indicate.
Opinion polls have been showing Labor about 20 points behind the National Party, however Clark said she does not accept that figure is accurate, Radio New Zealand reported.
She agreed Labor is starting from behind in the polls, but said that is not unusual for a third-term government facing pressures beyond its control.
Clark expected the lead to narrow as the election draws closer, and people get a better chance to compare policy.
New Zealand is expected to hold general elections later this year.
