Gurgaon : The Haryana government is going all out to save energy. It has made it mandatory for all new government buildings to be constructed according to official energy conservation guidelines by 2010 and offices to use energy-efficient bulbs.
Addressing a seminar on ‘Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC)’, Haryana Chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the compliance will be implemented in a phased manner.
In the first phase, all new government constructions this year with an area of 100,000 sq ft will have to be compliant with ECBC. By 2010, this rule will be applicable to all new government buildings.
The government has made it compulsory for all government offices and consumers with load of over 30 kilowatt to use energy-efficient illumination devices from Aug 15.
It has also notified that all urban areas will have energy efficient street lighting systems by April 2009. The state government estimates that it will save 222 MW of electricity through these conservation measures.
